Mariah Holguin (San Antonio) beat defending Jr Olympic National Champion Audrey Lively enroute to a Silver medal finish in the Girls' Intermediate 1 34kg division (birth years 2000-2001).
Paty Ambrus (San Antonio) also came through in the Girls' Juvenile A (1996-1997) 44kg group.
Kav'in Johnson (Marion, TX) scored a Bronze medal in the Girl's Intermediate 2 (1998-1999) 34kg division.
In addition to the Judo Championships the Junior Olympics also now includes a Brazilian Jujitsu segment. This event permits girls to compete against boys. Mariah Holguin scored a Silver medal in her 8-10 year no-gi division. Kavin Johnson then followed up with a very strong performance, winning two matches by arm bar submissions against male opponents enroute to a Bronze medal in the 8-10 year gi group.
Jonathan Stafford, Denis Ambrus, Chad Hirchak and brothers Samuel, Raymond and Andrew Truitt made up the rest of our Team.
The next event on the schedule is the Jr US Open in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Kavin Johnson, Mariah Holguin and Jonathan Stafford will be there with Coach Hrbek to compete in the July 30-Aug 1 International event.
