Kav'in Johnson and Mariah Holguin teamed up to bring a home a pair of Gold medals from the Jr US Open August 1 in Fort Lauderdale, FL. This event is the primary Junior International competition to be held in the United States each year.

The girls are the same weight but a difference in their birth years puts them in separate age divisions. Kav'in is the older and she won the Intermediate 2 (born 1998-1999) 34kg division while Mariah won the Intermediate 2 (born 2000-2001) group. The victories raised both girls to the #1 position in the entire country on their respective USA Judo Elite Athlete Rosters.

Kav'in's win positions her for the opportunity to compete in the Pan American Judo Confederation's age group championship tournament at the end of September in Panama City, Panama.

The next event for the Kav'in and Mariah, along with the entire Universal Judo Club team will be the Alamo Classic in San Antonio on September 11 at Palo Alto College.

The following week National Heavyweight Champion Nina Cutro-Kelly will represent the United States at the World Judo Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
